Hot and sunny – the heatwave continues, though today is likely the hottest day and warmest night in the forecast.
Thanks to Philippa for the photograph.
The general picture sees high pressure still to our south-west and orientated in a way that picks up some heat from the continent – though not as much as the last heatwave.
During the weekend the centre of the high shifts north and allows an easterly breeze to pick up – which will temper things a little.

Thursday then sees sunshine all day, a little bit of cloud around in the afternoon. Very hot – reaching around 33’C, maybe 34’C. Some high cloud around overnight and a fairly warm night – down to around 19’C.
Friday sees long spells of sunshine all day, just a little bit of cloud in the afternoon. Reaching around 32’C – the aforementioned easterly breeze starting to pick up in the afternoon. Mostly clear skies overnight though a chance of some low cloud spreading across from the North Sea by dawn, down to around 17’C.
A chance of some low cloud to start Saturday but otherwise long spells of hot sunshine all day. Reaching around 31’C – the easterly breeze taking the edge off a tad. Clear skies at least at first overnight – a chance of some low cloud drifting in from the North Sea later in the night, down to around 16’C.
Sunday probably starts with some low cloud around but this will break up during the morning to leave long spells of sunshine again. Reaching around 30’C so still hot, despite the easterly breeze. Clear or fairly clear skies overnight, down to around 15’C.+
Subtle changes by Monday, the high pressure block now centred over Scotland, we’ll still have the easterly breeze though we’ll also need to watch a little thundery low to the west of Spain/Portugal.

Again long spells of sunshine all day – and still hot though also quite windy. Roughly around 29’C, give or take. Fairly clear skies overnight, though a small chance of importing a thundery shower – down to around 16’C, ish.
More likely Tuesday sees further sunshine for much of the day, perhaps hazy at times – though I cannot rule out a shower. Probably a tad hotter, say 30’C, though uncertain on details. Again a small chance of a thundery shower overnight.
Details become more uncertain from here, and will depend on what the aforementioned thundery low does.
More likely, I’d suggest it remains hot, perhaps more humid than of late too, but with an increased chance of some thundery downpours at some point in the second half of next week.
Models are starting to trend towards something more changeable for the latter part of July – above-average temperatures seem likely but any heatwaves probably shorter in duration, some showers/thunderstorms at times, maybe a weather front or two with general cloud/rain but still plenty ofvery warm/hot sunshine at other times.
Enjoy the glorious sunshine if you can…and the football if not.
