A bit more changeable this week – you might even get a shower or two (might!), but the emphasis still very much on sunshine and warm/hot weather, for now.
Thanks to Joanna for the photograph.
Things are starting to get just a bit more fluid in the northern hemisphere, or at least our quadrant of it – high pressure still in control most of the time, though there is a low pressure system to the west right now, which will cross the UK this week.

Today sees good spells of sunshine all day, some high-cloud will make it hazy at times (more so than not I suspect) and a bit of fair-weather cloud bubbling up too. On the hot side, around 28’C. A very small chance of a shower this evening, but otherwise quite a lot of high/mid-level cloud for the first half of the night, clearer skies later – fairly warm at around 16’C.
Monday sees the return of the heat, long spells of sunshine with some high-cloud and just a little fair-weather cloud for most of the day. Hot, reaching around 33’C – give or take and quite humid too. A very small chance (less than 5%) of a shower in the evening/first part of the night, otherwise reasonably clear skies and a warm night at around 18’C.
Tuesday sees the low pressure system crossing to our north – for us it stays often sunny though some cloud at times and a chance of a shower or two, say 30-40% chance, which could be on the heavy side if you do catch one. Quite hot and humid, around 27’C or so, also breezy. Some cloud, some clear spells overnight, a small chance of a shower – and fairly warm again at around 18’C.
Wednesday sees the low pressure system pulling away, for us a mixture of sunny spells and variable amounts of cloud, a chance of a shower or two, though again around a 20-30% chance. Still very warm though less so, around 25’C and breezy. Reasonably clear skies overnight as fresher air spreads down – down to around 13’C.
By Thursday we see the Azores high nudging in again, though with less strength than earlier in the summer.

Some uncertainty on cloud amounts though more cloud than sunshine is the more likely outcome for Thursday. Fresher but still warm – around 23’C and breezy. Reasonably clear skies overnight, down to around 12’C.
More likely Friday sees sunny spells and variable amounts of cloud – perhaps a shower though some uncertainty on that. Temperatures somewhere between 23’C and 26’C more likely.
Not especially high confidence for next weekend on details, broadly-speaking more likely a continuation of sunny spells and some cloud at times. Perhaps one or two showers around, but uncertain at this stage (more likely on Saturday, if they do happen) and also some uncertainty on temperatures – but roughly in the range of 22’C to 28’C.
Perhaps a short hot spell to start the week after – though low confidence.
The trend seems to be a slow breakdown of the summer vibes as August goes on, and by around mid-month we probably are seeing more days with showers than without, more cloud than we have done and generally lower temperatures – say low 20s.
I’m still confident on September being a return to summer – a sunnier, warmer and drier month than normal is more likely than not, as it stands.
But long range forecasting is trickier at this time of year due to hurricane season, and the effects this can have on the jetstream.
Enjoy your Sunday – next forecast should be on Thursday morning.
