The glorious weather is taking a pause with something cooler, cloudier and with some showers – but nothing that bad.
Thanks to Andy for the photograph.
The general set up sees high pressure to our west, there’s a vague attempt at bringing cooler weather down from the north but it won’t really happen – a weak low pressure to our south-west but this is fading.

It’s a cloudy start to Bank Holiday Monday, some bits of patchy light rain/drizzle around. It should brighten up this afternoon with some sunny spells, but also this could also trigger a couple of heavy showers later in the afternoon or early evening. Quite warm, around 17’C, maybe 18’C. A mixture of clear spells and cloudy spells overnight, down to around 7’C.
Tuesday sees quite a lot of cloud around at times – especially in the morning. Some sunny spells, more likely during the lunchtime period, the odd shower possible later in the day. Around 17’C. Generally cloudier at first overnight, and generally more clear skies later. Down to around 4’C.
Wednesday starts sunny. Cloud will gradually build later in the morning, and it will be mostly cloudy for the rest of the day – perhaps a light shower or bit of drizzle at times. Around 14’C – the cooler air making its way down somewhat. Reasonably clear skies overnight and potentially rather chilly – down to around 2’C in more sheltered spots.
Thursday again starts sunny, and again cloud will build from mid/late-morning onwards. Not quite as cloudy as Wednesday afternoon, and often bright with some sunny spells – especially again by early evening. Around 14’C. Reasonably clear skies most likely overnight, down to around 4’C.
By Friday we are still kind of in this meteorological no man’s land, though there are two low pressure systems around – one to our north-west and one quite far to our south-west, the latter will attempt to head our way.

Friday itself probably is the better day of the week, though there is some uncertainty. More likely we’ll see hazy sunshine, at least for a good portion of the day, and something warmer – say around 18’C or so. But also there will be a chance of a scattered heavy shower or two. Uncertain overnight – possible that an area of rain/showers spreads up from the south.
Saturday is uncertain – we’ll likely be under the influence of the low to our south-west but that’s about the limit I can be sure about. Probably a warmer feel, anywhere between 15’C and 22’C is possible, depending on weather conditions. Possible it is a reasonable sunny day, but slightly more likely there are at least some heavy showers around, with a small chance of a spell of cloud and general rain.
Sunday again uncertain due to the development and track of the low pressure from the south-west, but the balance more in flavour of heavy showers or a spell of rain – though a small chance instead that we avoid the showers/rain and it stays reasonable sunny/hazy sunny most of the day. Temperatures anywhere between 12’C and 22’C – though the lower end more likely, as rain/showers more likely.
It will take at least a couple more days to get the timing of rain bands and focus of showery areas sorted out. Likely there is rain/showers at some points this coming weekend, but probably also a warmer feel.
Low pressure with rain/heavy showers is the more likely theme for the week after (as I have been saying for a while for mid-May) – though some warmth possible too.
Possibly warmer and drier by the end of May, probably warmer/hotter and drier in June.
Have a pleasant week.
