So the heatwave has relented (for now) but we are left with reasonable amounts of sunshine and generally it will be very warm/quite hot. The kind of summer weather most of us can enjoy.
Thanks to Fiona for the photograph.
The general picture sees the Azores High pushing in from the south-west – low pressure systems not far away to our west/north-west and will bring the odd weak weather front across during the week.

Monday starts sunny. Cloud will build from mid/late morning though it will still broadly be bright with some sunny spells at times. And likely more in the way of sunshine by the end of the day, if hazy. 22’C, maybe 23’C – much fresher than it has been. Mostly cloudy overnight, some patchy light rain in the second half. Down to around 15’C.
Tuesday starts on the cloudy side, but it will brighten up with a picture of variable amounts of cloud and some sunny spells. Likely more cloud than sunshine overall, but not too bad. One or two showers around later in the afternoon and into the evening. Around 23’C. Reasonably clear skies overnight, down to around 14’C.
Wednesday starts reasonably sunny, cloud will bubble up from around mid-morning and probably there is more cloud than sun for a while – and then becoming sunnier again later in the afternoon. Temperatures nudging up a tad, 24’C, maybe 25’C. Clear skies at first but cloud will spread down in the second half of the night, with some patchy light rain possible by dawn. A fairly warm night – around 17’C.
Thursday starts cloudy, a little bit of patchy light rain possible – but long spells of sunshine will follow for the rest of the day, once this clears say mid-morning ish. Very warm, 25’C, maybe 26’C. Clear skies overnight, down to around 12’C.
By Friday the Azores High is making more of an effort to settle closer to the UK. A very good sign if you hope for lots more warm/hot sunshine this summer.

Friday then sees long spells of very warm sunshine, temperatures around 26’C – maybe a bit more. Clear skies overnight, down to around 14’C.
Saturday again likely sees long spells of sunshine, a risk of a bit of cloud at times but mostly glorious. Becoming a bit hotter, around 28’C to 30’C. Mostly clear skies overnight, down to around 15’C.
Sunday most likely is hot and sunny – there is a risk of some cloud at times but more likely it is mostly sunny. Temperatures more likely in the range of 27’C to 30’C – but something hotter is possible.
It is a question of when, rather than if, we get back into heatwave territory. We could be there by Sunday/Monday though more likely during the following week.
Anything in the very/extremely hot category remains just speculative right now but I’d be surprised if we didn’t see 35’C in the second two-thirds of July at some point. And maybe even next week…just a small/moderate chance as it stands but one to watch.
What I am seeing is increasingly strong signals for a few weeks of mostly settled, mostly sunny and very warm/hot weather.
Even August is looking good.
Heck, even September tentatively looks good. Though that’s a very long way away.
Enjoy cooling your home down for a few days! Next forecast should be Thursday morning.
