Warmer air is coming back, and often it will be dry and sunny.

Thanks to Debbie for the photograph.

The general picture is kind of mid-ground at the moment – a large area of low pressure far to our north-west, the Azores High currently more subdued but trying to push in from the south-west – the latter will win.

Monday will be a mostly cloudy day, a bit of brightness at times – more likely early and late, and a bit of patchy light rain – more likely in the morning but also a few spots around in the afternoon. Mostly light anyway, though the odd heavier burst is possible. Mild and breezy, around 16’C. A mostly cloudy and very mild night, no lower than around 15’C – the odd bit of light rain/drizzle possible.

Tuesday starts cloudy – a band of rain will cross in the morning with no more than an hour, maybe two of showery rain, perhaps heavy. Much sunnier skies will follow with just a bit of cloud. Quite windy, but also warmer – 20’C. Mostly clear skies overnight, down to around 8’C – a chance of some fog patches by dawn.

Wednesday sees a reasonable amount of sunshine once any early mist/fog patches clear. Some cloud will bubble up through the middle part of the day, an outside chance of a shower, but otherwise very pleasant for mid-October and reaching around 18’C or so. Some high cloud around overnight, down to around 12’C.

The Azores High very much in control on Thursday still, though a weather front is edging in – were it July it would easily be in the 30s.

Thursday will be a mixture of good spells of sunshine, though also some high cloud at times – and probably some spells of low cloud, perhaps even a shower, but overall often very pleasant and warm – 20’C should be reached once more. Cloud thickening overnight with rain arriving around dawn – give or take. Down to around 14’C.

Friday starts with a spell of rain – well, I say start, most likely the band of rain crosses in the morning, though a small chance it is later in the day. A few hours of rain most likely, then brighter – and cooler later. 15’C. Clear skies overnight and chilly, down to around 5’C.

Saturday sees high pressure back in control – but this time centred over Scotland/Ireland with a cooler flow of air.

Not a bad day, sunny spells, some cloud – a chance of a shower though the middle part of the day, but feeling cool in the northerly (ish) breeze at around 13’C. Probably cloudy overnight – there is a chance of a spell of rain overnight pushing in from the east, say a 30% chance.

Sunday is uncertain for most details – temperatures will it won’t be anything special, roughly around 13’C or so. A sunny day is possible, a cloudy day is possible, a cloudy day with some showery rain is also possible.

High pressure most likely hangs around next week – position uncertain at this stage and hence the details also uncertain, though I think you can be hopefully of more sunshine, and also above-average temperatures, though with fog chances probably increasing later next week.

Said high pressure could well stay in control under the end of October (I nearly wrote April lol), perhaps even into November, delaying the onset of the long-expected wet/very wet spell.

It could be fair to suggest that December might actually be wetter than November.

Have a pleasant week – maybe we can keep pretending it is summer.
